Eyebrows weren’t the only things raised at Sunglass Huts’ glittering fundraising event held at the Misael Gallery in Cape Town. The event was to launch the TOTALLY WIRED campaign and hosted the design collaboration between Sunglass Hut, Streetwires and The Indalo Design Project whereby nine unique sunglass creations were auctioned off with all the proceeds going to The OneSight Foundation.
ALL THINGS WIRED AND WONDERFUL
The TOTALLY WIRED campaign launches at Sunglass Hut stores nationwide on Friday 11 June. In celebration of the 2010 World Cup, they created 1000 wire art wayfarers that will be sold for R150, with all profits going to The OneSight Foundation. The sunglasses are beaded in the colors of key countries flags and add a unique, artistic flavor to all the usual football paraphernalia.
RAISING THE BAR
The event was a stylish soiree where Cape Town’s media and invited guests were entertained by comedian Nik Rabinowitz before Andrew Koch from Claremart Auctioneers got the bidding going. The pieces, each inspired by elements unique to South Africa, fetched between R1000 and R4000 with TOTALLY VUVUZELA, designed by Nicci Drzewicki and crafted by Streetwires artist Tafara, being sold for R5500. Other unique items were TOTALLY Ready for the Game, TOTALLY Beloved, TOTALLY Biker Bokkie and TOTALLY Feathered.
NO WARM UP REQUIRED
It didn’t even take the hoot of a vuvuzela to get the festivities going. No sooner were the formalities over when the usually uber-stylish to-cool-to-groove Cape Town crowd donned their flags, wire art sunnies and other crazy paraphernalia for poses in the photo booth and beyond. Soccer spirit is alive and well and one could definitely feel it at the launch of Sunglass Hut’s TOTALLY WIRED.
